Wisconsin Senate passes fire-safe cigarette bill

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin businesses would have to sell fire-safe cigarettes that automatically extinguish when they're not being smoked under a bill that has passed the state Senate.

The measure now heads to Gov. Jim Doyle for his consideration. The Assembly has also passed it.

Wisconsin would join 22 other states in allowing only fire-safe cigarettes to be sold.

Firefighters and emergency responders support the measure.

Tobacco companies have not fought it. R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company plans to voluntarily switch all its cigarettes to the fire-safe kind by the end of next year.

What a town full of crie babies. Maybe we should shut down the metro, I don't like being forced to inhale that smoke. Maybe we should just all stay in our homes and never leave, that way nothing bad can ever happen.

I don't like cigarettes, when they burn they make you smell. And if I happen to just be so much as walking by, that smell gets on me and I end up smelling.( which then means I need to take ANOTHER shower.) And when I put my arm up to my nose and smell coast, Irish spring, dove, caress I want it to stay that way.

why don't I get to burn trash? Safer than cigges. I also don't get the breaks the smokers do. Makes them die young more social insecurity for me.

Great news. Now if they could design one that refuses to burn in the presence of non-smokers.

They taste horrible, and are even worse for your lungs. Thanks for giving us smokers another knife in the back. **** you all, mind you own business for a change, stay out of peoples lives. No biggie though, that's the beauty of the internet, I can buy regular cigs all day. Try and stop that.
