MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A national magazine has named Madison the No. 1 place in American for men, while a second magazine names the city No. 8 in the U.S. for women.

Men's Health magazine ranked cities based on 38 factors, including cancer rates, air quality and the number of gym memberships. It ranked Wisconsin's capital No. 1 overall, and No. 7 for best quality of life for men.

Women's Health magazine says Madison is No. 8 in America for women, and ninth in the category of women's quality of life.

It ranked Milwaukee 70th overall out of 100 cities.

The Women's Health Web site says it focused its rankings specifically on cities, not their suburbs.

Seven cities made the top 10 for men and women: Madison; Minneapolis; Aurora, Colo.; San Francisco; San Jose; Salt Lake City and Seattle.
