Friday at 1:42p.m., the Lafayette County Sheriff's Office was notified of a serious two-vehicle traffic crash with multiple injuries at the intersection of County Highway I and County Highway W. The location is approximately one mile east of the community of New Diggings.

The preliminary investigation indicates a 2001 Jeep Sport Utility Vehicle driven by Megan E. Uptegraph-Coble, age 28, of Dubuque, IA was being driven south on County Highway I. The Coble vehicle failed to yield from a stop sign when it entered onto County Highway W and into the path of a westbound 2004 Pontiac 4 door being driven by Linda L. Homer, age 53, Hazel Green, WI.
Megan Uptegraph-Coble was pronounced dead at the scene by a UW-Med-Flight physician. Linda Homer and a passenger, Elizabeth Burchfield, age 54, of Shullsburg, WI, were transported by Shullsburg and Hazel Green Ambulances to a Dubuque, IA hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Seatbelts were worn by each of the persons involved. Alcohol is not a factor in this crash. This is the third fatal traffic crash on Lafayette County roadways this year and the investigation is continuing.
