A 35-year-old town of Addison man is in custody in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident Thursday afternoon in the town of Hartford.

The Washington County Sheriff's Department says a motorist struck 3 boys on their bicycles from behind, fatally injuring a 13-year-old and seriously injuring two 12-year-olds, before fleeing from the scene on Highway K.

The car was found 15 minutes later at a park and ride lot near US Highway 41.

Sheriff's Lieutenant John Buck says the registered owner of the car was found early Friday at the Germantown home of his girlfriend.

The three boys attended Slinger Middle School.

The 13-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. The sheriff's department says the two 12-year-olds were taken to area hospitals for treatment of injuries not considered life-threatening.
