Incident Report from the Madison Police Department:
Incident Date: 09/01/2010 - 2:46 PM
Address: 600 block John Nolen Drive
A Madison Police officer suffered minor injuries Wednesday afternoon after a car sped away while he was partially inside of it trying to get the driver to stop.
Moments earlier, the officer was stopped with other vehicles for a red light at the intersection of John Nolen Drive and E. Olin Avenue when he watched a man get out of gold Toyota RAV4 and kick the door of the suspect's vehicle. When this happened the officer sounded his siren and pulled up to intervene.
The man who delivered the kick, a 63-year old from McFarland, was very cooperative, but the driver of the white car was not. He was going to drive from the scene, so the officer opened the unlocked driver's side door in an attempt to get him to stop. The man ignored the officer's commands and accelerated rapidly with the officer's arms, and part of his body, inside of the car. As the officer stepped back the fleeing car struck his elbow.
The McFarland man reported that he had been cut-off by the white car and was very angry that he was forced onto the shoulder to avoid a collision. He explained the RAV4 is his first new vehicle he has ever owned, and he lost his cool. He was cited for disorderly conduct. Other witnesses reported the driver of the white car was driving recklessly, swerving in and out of traffic, and cutting other people off as well. Anyone with information on the identity of the driver is asked to call Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 266-6014.
Suspect:
Male, white, 40-55 years old, sandy gray shoulder-length hair, wearing gold wire-rimmed glasses, and driving a white 4-door mid-sized older car - possibly a Toyota or a Nissan. The Wisconsin plate is similar to 274-MUR.
