Release from the Dane Co. Sheriff's Office:

Madison, WI. September 7, 2010 – A Dane County Sheriff’s deputy made a felony OWI arrest, after the driver violated the Move Over Law.

At approximately 1:45 am on Saturday, September 4th, a Sheriff’s Deputy was completing a traffic stop on US Highway 12, just west of Whitney Way in the City of Madison. As he walked back to his squad car, which had its emergency lights on, a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am traveled past him in the eastbound right lane. Since no other vehicles were on the roadway, the driver of the Pontiac had ample opportunity to move into the left lane of the highway.

When the deputy stopped Heriberto Velazquez-Torres, he admitted to consuming alcohol. After field sobriety tests, he was arrested for OWI 4th Offense. Velazquez-Torres was booked into the Dane County Jail on the felony charge. He was also cited for Operating After Revocation and for violating the Move Over Law.
