Incident Report from the Madison Police Department:

Incident Date: 09/05/2010 - 7:00 PM

Address: 500 block E. Main St.

A concerned couple leaving the Taste of Madison event Sunday evening used their SUV to block a parking lot entrance so that an intoxicated man could not drive away. The citizens had watched him stumble, and almost fall over as he walked with a 7-year old boy to a pickup truck. The witnesses said the man tried, but failed to start the truck with the boy in the passenger seat. When officers arrived, the boy was crying, and the man was still behind the wheel.

Arrested:
Jeffrey S. Meyer, age 42, Madison
Mr. Meyer was arrested for Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated - 3rd offense - with Juvenile.

Why does there have to be so much beer at a community event that someone can get this drunk?

A big THANK YOU goes to that couple that prevented this wretched person from driving. You could possibly have saved the life of this poor little boy. I can only imagine how confused and scared he was with all the commotion. You people did the RIGHT thing! I hope more people out there will stand up to people who bring their kids out to bars and force them to ride in cars with intoxicated drivers. These kids have no voice and no choice but to go with their parent. It deeply saddens me to think that anyone could conciously put their own child in danger like that. Some people are simply a disgrace and should be forced into parenting classes.
