A Madison police officer is suspended after making inappropriate comments during a disturbance call.

The department says the officer not only used unprofessional language, but also failed to report the use of handcuffs during the incident.

The officer violated 4 department policies and was suspended for one day without pay. The Department did not release his name.

In a separate incident --- another Madison officer was given a letter of reprimand after unintentionally discharging a Taser during checkout.

Every single police officer I know does his or her job and does it well. Officers may be superheroes in many people's eyes (mine included!) but you also have to realize that they're human beings. They have bad days sometimes, and can only handle so much, just like the rest of us. I don't know a single officer that isn't overworked, most of them that I know (and I know MANY) work at least 60 hours a week, and it's not at all uncommon for them to work 80 hour weeks. 99% of them are here to help us, and many times go home frustrated about one case or another. Those officers spend many holidays away from their families to be available to help us, and the only thing they ask is a little respect. So let's try to give it to them!

David- you and your fellow officers deserve a round of applause and a standing ovation for the job you do and the risks you take on a daily basis. Your son should be very proud because his father is working for an honorable police department in which many people respect. Rachel- You have a right to your own opinion because of our freedom/laws. All law enforcement agencies work at protecting and serving citezens so that people, such as yourself, have a right to disrespect them. How ironic.
