UPDATE: Green County Murder

UPDATED Monday, April 21 --- 4:00pm

The Green County Sheriff's Department issued a press release Monday to update news organizations on the Mark Tobin Homicide Investigation.

Detectives still believe this incident is drug-related and that Mark Tobin was the intended target of the act of violence. Tobin was found on November 21, 2007.

The search warrant continues to be sealed by the order of the Green County Circuit Court. Detectives believe if the search warrant is released, it could impede the investigation.

Detectives have conducted approximately 700 interviews during the investigation. They continue to investigate leads. No suspects are in custody.

The family of Mark C. Tobin announces they are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the death of Mark Tobin. The family has set-up a reward fund through the State Bank of Newburg, located in Newburg, Wisconsin.

The State Crime lab announces it has uncovered a probable motive for a murder in Green County.

Police say they believe 38-year old Mark Tobin was killed in a narcotics-related incident, and the crime was not a random act.

Tobin was found in his New Glarus home November 21. Investigators determined he died as the result of a -quote- "violent act".

Green County Circuit Court has sealed the search warrant request, in an effort to keep details of the investigation confidential.

No suspects have been named as authorities continue to investigate the incident.

NEW GLARUS, Wis. (AP) -- Authorities in Green County say an autopsy will be performed Thursday on a man found dead in his rural home.

The sheriff's department is treating the death of 38-year-old Mark Tobin as a homicide.

His body was found Wednesday afternoon in his home about 6 miles west of New Glarus. Sheriff Randy Roderick says a friend who hadn't heard from Tobin in a while went to the house and found him lying on the floor.

Tobin's wife told authorities she hadn't been home this week because she goes to college in Milwaukee during the weekdays. A tenant who lives in an attached rental property said he works out of the area and also hadn't been home in a few days.

Deputies expect the investigation of the scene will take several days.

i live in the house that he got murdered in. its crazy to think that at the bottom of my stairs about a year ago laid a body. there are still blood stains on the concrete that freak me out every time i walk past them. the killer of mark will never be caught, it was a professional hit. the house has been empty for a year now, and people still drive by and honk when they see us outside because this sort of thing never happens around here. its sad to see something happen like this, but bragging about having a safe full of money is pretty much begging to be robbed. i can still feel his presence in the house. his soul will not leave until his killer is found.

No one ever went to an AA meeting because they didn't have anything else to do that day. Life can get real ugly before you hit bottom. The truth is that 9 out of 10 addicts or alcoholics die before they get help. The odds are similar to lung cancer.

Those boys in Green County will get their man. We still have enough money to pay for our police because we are not building high rises! We also don't have Kathleen Falk! Dane County sure is pretty but don't be outside after dark!

Wake up and look around you Green County Resident. Cops kill people just as drugs do, and sometimes neither are fair. It is not always because they are "bad" people that they end up dead. As far as your rehab comment goes, if you called the cops on someone they don't go to rehab, they generally go to jail.

Green County Resident...since you seem to know that there are drug addicts all over Green County, what are you doing about them?
  • by Green County Resident on Dec 6, 2007 at 09:57 AM
Wake up and look around. There are drug addicts all over Green County and no one ever does anything about them. Drugs kill. You can die from using them. You can die from dealing with them. He may have been a nice guy but nobody did him any favors by allowing him to use and deal. You should ask yourself: "If I liked him so much, why did I cover for him?" Had you said something to the cops, he would be in rehab, not in the funeral parlor.
