The dispute over gambling payments to the state from the Ho-Chunk Nation may go to an arbitrator.
The Nation says under a Supreme Court decision, it's not required to pay $30 million a year to the state.
Now the governor says an arbitrator may have to sort it out.
The Ho-Chunk Casinos no longer offer Las Vegas style games like craps, poker, and roulette. Those were in the compacts struck down by the State Supreme Court.
That's why the Nation says it's not required to pay the state $30 million a year.
Gov. Doyle says it creates a cash flow problem.
"It hurts us in the short term between now and June. We're gonna have to do some things to make sure we cover the needs of senior care and some of the important health programs between now and June, but we can cover that.”
The governor says the state will get paid, sooner or later. He says the impasse could be resolved through arbitration.
