Local charitable efforts are making a big difference in the aftermath of the tsunami disaster.

To date the Badger Chapter of the Red Cross has raised $250,000, and nationally donations total $1.2 billion.

There have been several big scale fundraisers as well as smaller events like Wave Aid. A collection of bands took to the stage two weeks ago, and were able to raise $2,500 in one night.

“It is heart warming to see how our community comes together to help people half way across the world. I think the images were so intense that people felt a strong need to help,” says Sandra Lampman, CEO of the Badger Chapter Red Cross.

Since the Red Cross did get so much help, they feel they have raised enough money to meet the current relief needs, and have stopped fundraising for the tsunami disaster.
