At Tuesday's Common Council meeting, Madison Alders moved through a 44 page agenda.

One of the issues discussed was the Big Box ordinance. It sets design requirements for large retail establishments, including a 100,000 square size cap. During Tuesday's public hearing, opponents claimed the ordinance has safety issues, while supporters want to keep the local economy locally based.

The council voted to refer the ordinance another 60 days, meaning it will have been in the works for more than two years.

Another issue, a $13.1 million low-cost housing project in the Allied Drive neighborhood was passed.

Supporters of the plan hope the apartment complex will help the struggling neighborhood. Seventy percent of the building will be affordable housing, while 30 percent will cost the market rate.

But opponents say it will push poor people out of the area.

Members also approved the annexation of the town of Blooming Grove.
That means over the next 25–years the area will be slowly added to the city of Madison. Right now, only pieces of the town are in Madison's city limits.
