Stoughton Schools Prepare for Budget Cuts
The Stoughton School District voted down a referendum Tuesday, forcing the Superintendent to consider what to cut from the budget.
Roughly 65-percent of voters said no to Stoughton area schools' request to raise property taxes for four years. The district is facing a $1.2 million deficit in the next school year.
Superintendent, Myron Palomba, says options include a hike in participation fees or an increase in class sizes at the elementary school.
He says that could mean layoffs, but the board has a number of options to consider. "We recently added bus routes to enable us to shorten amount of time on bus. We may have to look at that again and go back to longer bus rides."
Palomba expects the Board to look at all options at its meeting Monday.
