Janesville GM Plant to Shut Down for a Week in March

General Motors says it will not operate its sport-utility manufacturing plant in Janesville for the seventh week this year.

Sluggish sales of its S-U-Vs has caused the shutdown. The automaker told the plant's nearly four-thousand workers Thursday that the plant will not produce Chevrolet Suburbans and Tahoes or GMC Yukons the week of March 14th.

Last year, sales of those models fell. Suburban sales dropped
nearly 12 percent.

Last week, G-M chief executive Rick Wagoner said high gas prices
are probably hurting sales of the big trucks.

The laid off workers will receive 95 percent of their usual
take-home pay when unemployment insurance and supplemental pay arecombined.
