We first told you about an area humane society in need of some big help Sunday and many of you have stepped up and answered the call for help. The outpouring of support for the Dodge County Humane Society has been huge.
The shelter got in 18 dogs Friday and for a little operation that many dogs is overwhelming. However, since then many of you have come to the rescue.
Bo Dean is just one of 18 dogs the Dodge County Humane Society took in a few days ago. The Sheriff gave the shelter a call. A woman passed away, leaving behind 20 dogs. "It was very desperate. The dogs were in very, very, poor condition," said Waugus.
The shelter took the dogs in. It was a huge undertaking. it brought their dog count up to 40 and they only have 10 kennels. "There were dog crates everywhere," explained Waugus.
The Humane Society did the best it could to make sure the dogs were safe, warm, and fed for the night. Then they put out a plea for help. "I knew that this business was one that if you ever needed help and asked for help, the help would come. I just didn't know it would come in this quantity," smiled Waugus.
The community responded in a big way bringing food, blankets, and some offering to foster a dog or simply just come and take them for a walk. "The public's response was overwhelming, the amount of food and blanket donations that we got in that were desperately needed," Waugus said.
Area shelters also came to the rescue taking some of the dogs. Now, just two of the 18 dogs are at the Dodge County Humane Society--Bo Dean and Chipper. However, the need is still great. "Chipper, one of the dogs that we kept is probably going to cost us close to a thousand dollars in vet care. just because of his eyes and his ears. He's very matted, he's going to need some dental work, some of the dogs are going to need extensive dental work," explained Waugus.
So this holiday season the shelter is hoping for another miracle to get the pooches healthy and find them a happy home. The Dodge County Humane Society is still taking financial donations to help with the medical bills of the 18 dogs.

Just in case you are interested in adopting one of the dogs, the shelter will tend to their health needs, then once the dogs are healthy enough to be adopted out, they will begin that process.
The current Dodge County Humane Society is less than a 1000 square feet they are raising money and getting ready to move into a new location. Donations for that project can also be sent to the Dodge County Humane Society.
