Rollerderby Rocks Madison

Think rollerderby is a fluffy sport? Think again.

The Mad Rollin' Dolls, Madison's new rollerderby league, hit the rink Sunday at the Fast Forward Skate Center.

The Reservoir Dolls faced down the Psycho Kitties, while the Unholy Rollers went head–to–head with the Quad Squad in front of several hundred cheering spectators.

Team members say that roller derby is a very exciting and challenging sport, that can sometimes turn violent.

“You'll see girls knocking each other several feet into the crowd, you might see some blood, you'll certainly see a lot of exciting skating," says Psycho Kitties team member Bad Sister Heidi.

“We've had a lot of bad injuries, a lot of ugly bruises that we name, a lot of stitches, broken bones, everything,” says Pamdemonium, co-founder of Mad Rollin' Dolls.

Although the girls don't act nice on the rink, they give all the profits from the league to charity.

They can be seen around town at volunteer and fundraising events. Their next bout is set for March 20th.
