Plane Crashes at Portage Airport

Video will be available shortly.

Portage authorities are investigating a small plane crash at the airport.

The Chairman of the Portage Airport, Jim Bryan, says one pilot and one passenger were aboard the ill–fated plane. Both suffered minor injuries.

The pilot was trying to make a cross-wind landing just after 4 p.m. Saturday, when the plane's engine reportedly stalled. The plane crash–landed just off the runway.

Bryan says that another pilot, who landed just a few minutes earlier, witnessed the entire ordeal. "One of the other local pilots landed just before and he said he had some difficulties setting the plane down. And unfortunately he had time to turn around and watch this pilot get in a bit of a problem."

The Portage Municipal Airport has two runways. The secondary runway, which would have been aligned with the wind this Saturday, is closed due to its poor condition.
