Lodi Valley Historical Society to Turn Down $500,000

When Raymond Brown, of Lodi, died last March, he left more than $500,000 to the Lodi Valley Historical Society.

But there was one caveat: the entire board of directors must resign within a year of his death.

Time is running out, and the board members say they've decided to turn down the windfall.

Brown's friend, Don Thistle, says Brown was frustrated by the board, and felt they didn't do anything or have a mission.

Brown gave the society money for its headquarters but was disappointed by their choice.

Society members will try to persuade the board to change its mind at a meeting Sunday. Otherwise, the 500 grand will go to Brown's living heirs.
