Madison's mayor says the city will get its state of the art public pool without more public funding.
Mayor Dave Cieslewicz made the announcement Tuesday morning before a group of first and second-graders at Franklin Elementary School. "The Goodman brothers stepped forward. They've been so tremendously generous right along. They stepped forward, and I can't say enough about what they've done for the community."
March 1 marks the fundraising deadline, but another $300,000 donation by the Goodman brothers closed the budget gap. Irwin and Robert Goodman already donated $2.5 million to the project.
The city's share comes to about $500,000. Construction of the $4.1 million pool at Goodman Park is expected to start this summer.
The Mayor says fundraising for scholarships and pool maintenance will continue.
