Police in the Milwaukee suburb of Brookfield are now searching the home of a gunman who opened fire in a hotel early Saturday afternoon. Eight people are dead including the gunman.
Brookfield police blocked off the neighborhood where they believe the gunman lived. They say he lived with his mother and sister. Authorities questioned both family members and collected more information from the suspect's house.
According to police, just before 1 o'clock, a man showed up for a church meeting at Brookfield's Sheraton Hotel where the suspect reportedly shot 11 people.
Church members who witnessed the ordeal say they had to react quickly. Sondra Frasier was one of the witnesses. " I dove under a chair… the man who's chair I dove under… he died."
Four victims reportedly died at the scene. They include a 15–year–old boy, a 17–year–old boy, a 72–year–old man, and a 55–year–old woman.
Meanwhile, seven other victims were transported to area hospitals. Three more men, ages 44, 50, and 58 all died.
The meeting reportedly involved members of the North Carolina–based Living Church of God, which has been holding meetings at the Sheraton for the past few years.
The suspect was a member of the church and died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
