Madison Celebrates St. Patrick's Day

Thousands of spectators painted the town green Sunday, in honor of a special saint.

Bagpipe players marched around the Capitol Square, while organizers gave out awards for most freckles and largest clan during Madison's 8th annual St. Patrick's Day Parade.

Organizers from the Dane County Shamrock Club raised the flag of Ireland in the Capitol Rotunda.

Meanwhile, about 600 volunteers crowded the Monona Terrace sidewalks for the Shamrock Shuffle, a 5–K race which gives a little "luck of the Irish" to charity.

"It makes St. Patrick's Day even more fun, and we love just seeing everybody exercise and run, so the whole thing, it's really fun," says organizer Megan Sisson.

Last year's Shamrock Shuffle raised more than $6,000.

Proceeds from Sunday's event will go to the Boys and Girls Club of Dane County.
