WAUWATOSA -- There's officially a Republican running for governor of Wisconsin.
Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker announced his intention to become governor Monday morning outside his Wauwatosa home.
Walker may face opposition from Assembly Speaker John Gard and Congressman Mark Green.
During his announcement, Walker compared his track record to that of possible opponents. “Out of all the people talking I'm the only one who's actually been elected to serve as an executive, as the head of a government, the second largest government, second only to the state of Wisconsin itself," said Walker. "And I've delivered, for all the talk about property tax freezes I proposed three state budgets that actually froze the property tax levy.”
Walker says his next step is to start fundraising. He'll have some catching up to do. Governor Jim Doyle already has more than $1.5 million in his re–election war chest.
