MADISON (NBC15) The Badger Chapter of the American Red Cross made history in 2004. For the first time the Badger Chapter responded to more than 100 local disasters in a single year.
It provided emergency assistance to 576 residents and 221 families. All together this represents a 43 percent increase in the number of local disaster responses and lead to the Badger Chapter exceeding its budget by $65,000.
Despite the budget strain caused by local disasters, the Red Cross assures the community of its commitment to serve those in need wherever and whenever the next emergency strikes.
“Whether it's a flood, home fire, apartment fire, the tornadoes that ravaged through the city of Madison last year, we'll be there but we do need the support of the community to help pay for those services,” says Badger Chapter C.E.O. Sandra Lampman.
Lampman says the first Ridgewood Country Club apartment complex fire was the most expensive event the Badger Chapter has ever responded to.
