A stray kangaroo captured earlier this month still has no owner, but its caretakers expect to learn more about the animal later this week.
Zoo staff nicknamed the animal Dodge. Police in Iowa County captured the kangaroo near Dodgeville earlier this month.
It has remained in quarantine at the Henry Vilas Zoo but will undergo a full exam on Friday. Veterinarians will put the animal under anesthesia to determine whether it has any significant markings or a microchip for identification.
Veterinarian Mike Petersen says, "What we do is run this over his back and look to see if he was in another zoo or facility that uses microchips."
Zoo staff report the kangaroo is in good condition. Dodge could stay at the Henry Vilas Zoo or go to another zoo if no owner is found.
