Madison Speaks Out About Dept. of Civil Rights

Madison residents speak out about a possible new Department of Civil Rights.

Thursday night was the first of three public meetings to discuss the mayor's proposal to join Affirmative Action with the Equal Opportunity Commission offices.

The mayor says combining the two offices would do the city good because it would provide a unity to departments dealing with similar issues. But some feel the new department would upset an established balance.

Public input is welcomed again on Wednesday, February 2nd at 6 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club of Dane County, and on Tuesday, February 8th at 6:30 p.m. at the Warner Park Community Room.

The meetings are being lead by a committee made up of various city leaders. They will make their recommendations about the proposed department to the common council in March.
