Some quick thinking by Madison officials helped the city avoid hundreds of thousands of dollars in gas costs.
William Vanden Brook of Motor Equipment says, “We entered into a contract at the end of the year for all our needs for 2005, that's 850,000 gallons of fuel at an average cost of $1.615”
Vandenbrook made the purchase with the help of the mayor's and comptroller's offices late last year when prices were at their lowest.
It's currently saving the city 40-50 cents per gallon.
