UPDATED Friday, March 2, 2012 --- 6:10 p.m.

From the Wisconsin Dells Police Department:

Working in conjunction with the Columbia County Medical Examiners officer, an autopsy was completed this afternoon on the body that was removed from the Wisconsin River at the Wisconsin Dells dam on Wednesday, February 29, 2012.

The autopsy revealed there were no signs of violent injury or trauma to the body.

Because there was no identification with the body we are currently at the stage of comparing dental records and using DNA analysis to assist in either eliminating or making a positive identification in this case.

We expect those results to take several days.

The cause and manner of death are still under investigation while we wait for toxicology test results, and we are not able to establish at this time how long the body was in the water. We are following up on all leads as they come in while this investigation continues.

Wisconsin Dells Police say the body appears to be a man in his 20's, average height with black hair.

Lt. Perry Mayer of the Wisconsin Dells Police Department says they are withholding other identifying information about the individual until a homicide is ruled out. Mayer says no obvious wounds like a gunshot or stab were visible as they recovered the body.

The Columbia County Medical Examiner is expected to release autopsy results by the end of the week.

Complicating the identification process, Mayer says there currently are not any missing people in the area. He says the department is expanding its search to older missing person cases.
