(MADISON) - Madison Metro could have some funding problems in their future.
City officials are worried that they could be facing a $1.2 million hole in the metro budget. That's because transit aid from the state makes up a large part of the budget.
That aid is not keeping up with costs and inflation, and the high cost of fuel doesn't help.
The mayor says if the state doesn't increase transit aid the city will be left with three options.
“We can go to the general property tax to pick up some of the difference. We can cut service or we can increase fares, or we can do some combination of the three," said Mayor Dave Cieslewicz.
Mayor Cieslewicz says he doesn't want to cut service and raising fares alone won't solve the problem. He says they've got until October to come up with a solution.
