Wisconsin women are fighting to stop the violence.
The Wisconsin Coalition Against Domestic Violence hosted a lobby day to end domestic abuse. Advocates urge state lawmakers to increase funding for services that help abuse victims.
A 40 percent increase in requests for that kind of help has been coupled with funding cuts from federal, state and local resources in the last five years.
Senator Judy Robson believes proactive involvement can get the lobbyists' message through to legislators loud and clear. “It is not okay to hit a woman with your fist; it's not okay to hit a woman with your words.”
Robson also believes women should be allowed emergency contraception after a sexual assault.
