An investigation is underway to find out why hydrogen–cyanide was found in a Verona High School classroom.

Around two Thursday afternoon students were evacuated, and the hazardous incident team suited up and headed into the school.

They responded after a science teacher felt sick. He thought it was because of a chemical spill that happened before noon.

The teacher, an aide, and 14 students were checked out by paramedics and are said to be okay.

“I am very happy to hear at this time I have no reports of anyone being seriously hurt, injured, or ill. I want to talk with the commissioner about long term, short term effects," says Kelly Meyers from Verona High School.

An internal investigation is under way.

The school is working with fire officials to find out why chemicals to make hydrogen–cyanide would even be at the school.

Classes are scheduled to resume Friday.
