The head of Madison's Archdiocese, Bishop Robert Morlino, was in Lancaster Saturday celebrating a confirmation, but he released this statement.
Morlino's statement reads:
"I will grieve deeply at the loss of our chief Shepard who has, has so long, been an instrument of the Lord's gift of courage to myself."
The Diocese of Madison has scheduled a Sunday memorial Mass to honor Pope John Paul.
Those who want to join Bishop Robert Morlino and others as they celebrate the Pope's life and legacy can head to Our Lady Queen of Peace Church on Madison's west side. The service wil be held at 2 p.m.
