Madison's increased minimum wage may be wiped out, if some state lawmakers have their way.
A bill approved in committee Thursday would preempt local ordinances that raise the minimum wage higher than $5.15 an hour.
Senate President Alan Lasee says if some places set minimums higher than others, businesses in places with a lower minimum wage would be hurt.
Madison raised its minimum wage to $5.70 an hour in January.
The Senate is expected to take up the bill on Tuesday.
