Dodgeville Police Officer on Paid Leave

The Dodgeville Police Department is investigating the actions of one of its highest ranking officers.

Problems started for a Dodgeville Police Lieutenant last month when allegations surfaced concerning an inappropriate e-mail.

Lieutenant Ron Gratz is on paid leave from the police department, and from the high school where he works part time as a baseball coach and school liaison.

According to a letter Gratz told us he wrote to friends. He is being investigated for a citizen complaint regarding that alleged e-mail. Gratz goes on to write he's been questioned about child pornography and underage drinking parties.

In his letter, Gratz says those accusations are not true.

“The Dodgeville Police Department is reviewing a personnel matter involving Ron Gratz as it related to police rules of conduct and department policy," said Chief David Kieffer of the Dodgeville Police Department.

In a statement, the lieutenant's attorney states, “Ron Gratz has an impeccable 11-year service record with the Dodgeville Police Department. He has completely cooperated with the current investigation, hopes it will be completed soon and hopes to be reinstated in his job.”

An internal investigation is ongoing.
