While some taxpayers may disagree, area post offices say they're not feeling the pressure of tax day.
A Postal Service spokesperson says the 2005 tax season has been incredibly smooth thus far.
She adds all Madison postal service stations will remain open during their regularly scheduled hours Friday evening, adding e–filing has delivered a steady decrease in walk–in volume over the past several years.
“It used to be we would be busy from the moment we opened, til the moment we closed and we would close late,” says Terri Bouffiou of the U.S. Postal Service. “It's just not that way, as you can see here, there isn't even a line waiting.”
Madison's Milwaukee Street Post Office will provide an April 15th postmark for all mail deposited in the exterior collection boxes by Midnight Friday.
