Demonstrators take to the streets tonight marching and talking in an effort to take back the night.

People gathered at the Capitol square this evening for the 21st Dane County rally against sexual violence. The event provides a safe and empowering environment for survivors to speak about sexual assaults and let their voices be heard.

Dane County Take Back the Night Coalition says one out of three women and one out of every seven men will fall victim to sexual assault. Statistics show the number of sexual assault reports are on the rise, but experts aren't sure if that means more occurrences or more people reporting occurrences. Charity Schmidt, Co-chair of the event says they like to believe people are feeling more comfortable talking about the assaults.

The event features speeches from survivors and crisis center workers, along with music and a candle light march from the Capitol to Library Mall.
