Dane County officials aren't just cracking down on Beltline speeders, they're also stepping up enforcement in area neighborhoods.
The 6th annual Safe Community Coalitions' "Slow Down Campaign" kicked off Monday.
The goal is to encourage drivers to slow down in residential areas.
Coordinators say traffic patterns change this time of year, as school lets out for the summer.
The campaign is designed to serve as a reminder for drivers.
Madison's Mayor says Safe Neighborhoods is a necessity for the city.
"I've always felt it's part of building a good city and building a good neighborhood. If the neighborhood works for pedestrians, for kids, for people on bikes, then it's going to be a good neighborhood to live in. The two go together," says Mayor Dave Cieslewicz.
For the next five days, there will be increased enforcement in neighborhoods, along with neighborhood traffic safety activities throughout Dane County.
