Scaling Back Hunting Fee Hikes

Video will be available shortly.

It will probably cost you more to fish or hunt in Wisconsin next year.

The Joint Finance Committee voted to increase a number of licenses and fees Wednesday. But the plan scales back some of those fees compared to what Governor Doyle had originally proposed in his budget.

Sen. Scott Fitzgerald (R-Juneau) is a member of the Joint Finance Committee and tells us they couldn't go along with the larger increases, especially with deer hunting permits. "The Governor made significant increases in the deer permits. He actually increased that by $12 from where the current fee is. And I think the Joint Finance Committee especially with the issues we're facing right now, within the deer herd, we're trying to get hunters back out in the woods."

Right now a deer license costs $20. The Joint Finance Committee would raise that to $24. Archery licenses would also climb to $24 and fishing licenses would jump from $17 to $20.
