Lion Cubs Make Their Debut at the Zoo

Video will be available shortly.

Six months ago, five lion cubs were born to parents Henry and Vilas. Thursday, they made their Henry Vilas Zoo debut.

The lion cubs were born October 14. Thursday was the first day they could be seen by the general public. The cubs will be on exhibit as long as weather conditions permit.

Zookeeper Shane Elsinger says they have been adjusting pretty well to their new surroundings. “Things have gone relatively well so far. When they first came out, they were a bit curious and maybe a little bit apprehensive, completely new surrounding and experiences for them, but for the first half hour to 45 minutes they spent time exploring the new exhibit and surroundings and they settled down pretty good.”

Elsinger says he's not sure how long the lions will stay at the Henry Vilas Zoo. He says there's a good chance they will be relocated to other zoos at some point in time.
