Crazy Weekend...Mifflin Madness in Madison

Students and city officials have clashed for more than a month over the annual Mifflin Street block party.

City officials were prepared for a May 7th date, whereas students wanted to celebrate April 30th due to their schedule of final exams.

Well, looks like the students had their way. The party happened Saturday.

Madison police say they've arrested more than 80 college students during the party.

Chief Noble Wray says the arrests primarily involved alcohol violations, such as underage drinking.

Mike Verveer, Alderman for that district says he thinks things worked out just fine today.

“I also think that our strategy of having the party today and saying there shouldn't be a party next week is working quite well. I have yet to meet a single person today, and I've been out here all day, who's told me that they're planning to party again next Saturday," says Verveer.

Verveer says in light of today's successful event, he doesn't anticipate many party–goers will participate in the city's scheduled block party which was to have taken place next weekend.
