Republicans have passed a minimum wage preemption bill. But they're working on a compromise to avoid Governor Doyle's veto.
A number of communities around the state have followed Madison's lead and have raised the local minimum wage.
This bill would overturn those increases and keep the minimum wage at $5.15 an hour statewide.
Governor Doyle has said in the past he would prefer to have a statewide minimum wage. But he said he will veto this bill unless Republicans stop blocking a minimum wage increase that is set to go into effect.
Republicans say they hope to use this preemption bill as leverage to work out a deal with the Governor.
