Gard's Idea to Watch Voters

In Madison, the fight to require photo I.D. at polls has not ended. An attempt to override Governor Doyle's veto of the photo I.D. bill has failed but Republicans will introduce it as a constitutional amendment.

The floor vote in the Assembly was 61 to 34 to override. Five votes short of the necessary two–thirds majority.

The photo I.D. bill would've required voters to show a state I.D. at the polls when they voted.

Supporters said it would reduce the chance of fraud in our elections.

Governor Doyle vetoed the bill saying it would make it harder for the poor and the elderly to vote.

If an amendment is passed by state voters it doesn't need the governor's approval.
