Governor Doyle is heading to Washington, D.C. Thursday to try to protect Wisconsin's military bases from closure.

The governor will meet with Deputy Secretary of Defense Phillip Grone to stress the importance of Fort McCoy, Volk Field, and Mitchell and Truax Airfields to Wisconsin's economy and the nation's security.

The deadline for the DOD's proposed list of base closures or realignments is May 16th.

By September, the Base Realignment and Closure Commission will release a final list for approval from the President and Congress.
