UW Running Back Charged

UW running back Booker Stanley is charged Thursday with attacking a woman and a man at the Mifflin Street block party.

The criminal complaint says it took four officers to arrest Stanley after he repeatedly punched a man while holding him by the throat.

The man told police he was on his way to a portable toilet when he was confronted by Stanley. He says Stanley slapped him, and when he returned the slap, Stanley began throwing punches.

Stanley's defense attorney Charles Giesen was in court Thursday, and says those allegations simply aren't true. "They're inconsistent with the complaint and they appear to be injuries that were caused by contact with the ground, not by being struck by Mr. Stanley.”

The complaint also says Stanley pushed a woman to the ground and grabbed her nose.

Stanley is charged with two counts of battery, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
