If it's hard prying the money out of your wallet to pay for gas, there may be an extra incentive to do so. A bill introduced in the Senate proposes a discount for cash paying customers.
A lot of consumers pay at the pump with credit cards, but with each transaction, gas retailers have to pay fees to credit card companies. Current contracts between credit card companies and gas retailers prevent cash discounts to customers.
Senate bill 180 would allow for cash discounts without penalties to retailers. Sen. Dave Zien says, "This bill would lower costs for gas retailers and would lower prices for consumers. Current existing contracts and agreements prohibiting discount cash sales would be null and void and unenforceable on the effective date of this legislation."
The bill is co-authored by Zien and Rep. Jeffrey Wood.
