A small church has risen from the ashes and is starting over.

Sunday morning, Brodhead's Bethany Lutheran held its first Sunday service since the 130-year-old church burned to the ground.

It was in October 2003 when lightning struck the church and sparked the flames which would consume the structure.

This congregation has been trying to rebuild ever since, and Sunday they finally enjoyed the fruits of their labor.

Prominent in the new church are pieces of the old building which serve as reminders.

"A lot of furniture in front of the church is made from lumber from those old trees, and we also have old stain glass incorporated into the new windows in this building," says building committee chairman Bob Franky.

And thanks to all the hard work, this congregation is singing again.

The new church cost less than $500,000.

At Sunday's unveiling, there was a ceremony to dedicate the building.
