Release from Waushara County Sheriff's Department:
On Thursday, June 14, 2012 at 7:50 AM the Waushara County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a one vehicle crash on 5th Ave. ½ mile south of STH 73 in the Town of Plainfield. Emergency responders from the Sheriff’s Office, Waushara County EMS, Plainfield Fire and Rescue found a 2001 Ford Explorer among the trees on the west side of 5th Ave.
Initial investigation indicates that the vehicle had been traveling north on 5th Ave. when the driver had lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle went onto the north bound shoulder. When the vehicle came back onto the road it went into a skid, crossed to the west side of the road and struck several trees as well as the I39 right-of way fence before coming to rest on the drivers side.
The driver and lone occupant in the vehicle was identified as Sydney D. Small 16 years of age of rural Plainfield.
Small was pronounced deceased at the scene by Waushara County Coroner Roland Handel. The crash is being investigated by the Waushara County Sheriff’s Office. This is the second traffic fatality for 2012 in Waushara County.
