The clock is ticking for pool planners. Madison's Swimming Pool Committee put the finishing touches on a proposal Monday night, that the city council is scheduled to decide on Tuesday.

The blueprints for the swimming pool are already drawn up. This sight is a much anticipated one by the Goodman brothers, who have donated millions of dollars with the stipulation that the city break ground on the project this July.

But a big snag is causing headaches for this committee. The cost of the pool is a million dollars over budget.

"There's a lot on the line here. The Goodman gift really stipulates that we have to be under construction by July first. We've known that from the very beginning. We've known we've had a very, very tight timing plan," says Parks Superintendent Jim Morgan.

Items like a waterslide, a sand box, and landscaping have been slashed, and money has been moved around so the groundbreaking can take place on time.

But the pool plan must be approved by the city council before construction can begin.
