Cold Medicine Law

Governor Doyle signed a law Tuesday that restricts access to cold medicines that contain a key ingredient to make methamphetamine.

Under the legislation, Wisconsinites will no longer be able to
buy cold medicines containing pseudoephedrine over the counter except in the liquid form or gel caps.

Pseudoephedrine is a main ingredient in a number of over-the-counter drugs like Sudafed and Sinutab.

People who want to buy those medications would need to get them
from a pharmacist or pharmacy technician, show a picture
identification card and sign a log book so authorities can track
sales.

Wisconsin's neighboring states all have similar laws.
