Republicans Fight to Outlaw Human Cloning

Republicans want offenders to face up to a decade in prison and a $1 million in forfeitures. Stem cell scientists are outraged and fear it could handcuff their work in the state.

The debate centers around creating embryonic stem cells for research from your own cells. That's known as therapeutic cloning.

Monday's meeting promises to pit supporters of stem cell research at the University of Wisconsin-Madison against conservative lawmakers and right-to-life lobbyists.
