Debate Over Juneau Wind Farm

Print

Developers who plan to build the largest wind farm in Wisconsin make their case at a hearing Wednesday night.

The Forward Wind Energy Project says two conditions attached to a local permit for about 60 wind turbines are unfair.

One requires a three mile setback from the boundaries of the Horicon Marsh. The second would place height restrictions on turbines near private airstrips.

Forward project consultant Neil Palmer says the Dodge County planning committee exceeded its authority in creating the conditions. Palmer says federal wildlife officials recommend only a two-mile setback from the marsh.

The hearing at Juneau is part of an appeal to the Dodge County Board of Adjustments.

State hearings on the plan will be held later this month.
